Favorite Video Friday – Doberman in Slo Mo

September 22, 2017 2 comments

I don’t really know why I love today’s video that much.

Maybe it’s the feeling of freedom I get when watching this dog run and play.

Or, maybe it’s the wide open space and empty beach that appeals to me.

Or, maybe it’s seeing a Doberman in its natural state (no docked tail or ears) that makes it appealing.

Either way, this video is worth watching just for the happiness it evokes. I hope you enjoy it.

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – The last hurrah to summer

September 1, 2017 1 comment

In Minnesota, summer begins on Memorial Day and ends on Labor Day.

I don’t mean that we ignore the technical dates that signify the beginning and end of summer (i.e., June 21 for the summer solstice and September 22 for the fall equinox), but we consider the start and end of summer to be when our lakes officially open and close (i.e., Memorial Day and  Labor Day).

So if we go by Minnesota time standards, summer ends this long Labor Day weekend. Our magnificent and highly-attended state fair ends on Labor Day, most kids head back to school the day after Labor Day, and the outdoor pools and lakes close on Monday.

That’s why so many of us are taking the time to get in that last hurrah. That last moment to camp before the kids get back to school, or to hit the fair before it ends, or to get in that last day at the lake before it closes down.

Dogs and owners will likely be taking advantage of this time too. We all want to give them that last chance to go for a swim before the cold weather hits (although technically, that could be several weeks away). There is even a local business who opens their pool to dogs at the end of the season . It’s the last hurrah of summer.

That’s why I thought it appropriate we celebrate this Labor Day weekend with a little pool time. The last hurrah to summer.

Have a happy and safe Labor Day everyone! 🙂

Favorite Video Friday – Slow Motion Dog Frisbee

August 25, 2017 1 comment

I may have mentioned it before, but I love slow motion videos, especially slow motion dog videos. I came across today’s Favorite Friday video selection a week ago and have watched it a few times now. It is so cool to see a dog catching frisbee in slow motion, but what makes this one especially fascinating is that it is REALLY slowed down. You can see every twist of the body and every movement of the paws. It really is beauty in motion.

I don’t know the dog’s name, but man is he/she cool! I wonder if he/she competes? Maybe so. 🙂

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did.

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – Crusoe’s Morning Routine

June 29, 2017 2 comments

Today is the first day of my 11-day vacation (well, technically, 7 working days, but I count weekends too. Don’t you?).

I had decided to sleep in this morning, but Jasper had other plans. Whenever I sleep past 5 am, Jasper jumps up on my bed and lays down beside me and paws my hand. He insists on a belly rub before we get up and get moving for the morning.

As I scratched his belly this morning (at 5:30 am), I started thinking about our morning routine. I’ve probably shared a little bit of our morning routine before, but probably not the details.

This is literally our daily routine (unless i get up exactly at 5 am):

  • Jasper jumps on the bed and insists on his morning belly rub.
  • Foster Maggie runs in and out of my bedroom excitedly, wagging her tail the whole time (that last part is new!).
  • I swing my legs over the edge of the bed as Jasper jumps down. Then, Maggie runs in and we do butt scratches (for her and Jasper).
  • I walk into the living room, where Daisy is lounging on the couch, and give her a few scritches.
  • I let Jasper and Maggie out.
  • I go back and give Daisy her morning belly rub (she absolutely refuses to go outside in the morning until she has had her morning belly rub).
  • I let Daisy outside and start preparing Kongs for the day.
  • Daisy bursts into the house (she can open the door if it is not locked), followed by Jasper, and eventually, Maggie.
  • Jasper stations himself in the kitchen to supervise the Kong making (you never know when a stray piece of kibble will hit the floor), and Maggie watches from the wings.
  • Kongs are placed in the freezer (to freeze their yogurt topping) and then it’s time for breakfast for me.
  • While I eat my breakfast, Daisy, Jasper and Maggie watch me, like adoring fans.

Crazy huh?

It seems so much more complex than Crusoe’s routine, as featured in this week’s Favorite Friday Video. 🙂

So, what’s your morning routine with your dog(s)? I’d love to know if my routine is as crazy as everyone else. Please share.

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – I love Stella videos

June 23, 2017 Leave a comment

Have you met Stella yet? She’s the internet sensation taking over YouTube!

Stella is a Labrador Retriever who is obviously the apple of her owner’s eye and is completely adorable and funny. I think I’ve watched almost every video she has on YouTube. The best part? There are always more!

I thought I would share two Stella videos with you today – Stella Tries Different Hose Settings and Low Tide Stella.

Isn’t she the cutest goofball you’ve ever seen? 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – Frenchie Love

June 16, 2017 5 comments

Before French Bulldogs became such a hugely popular dog breed, I used to care for one as a pet sitter. He was an adorable, stoic little guy. He had tons of personality and was so darn cute. I would love watching him sleep. He would sprawl out on his belly and kick his back legs out and put his front legs alongside his body (behind his head). It just made me smile.

Frenchies are a lot like Boston Terriers. They have huge personalities. They can entertain you all day long with their antics. And if you need a cuddle at night? They can do that too.

This week’s video features a French cutie, named Huey. I guarantee you that he will make you smile.

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – Border Collie Fun

June 2, 2017 2 comments

I have a thing for musical videos featuring dogs. I don’t know what it is, but they almost always leave me feeling happier and lighter in spirit. This week’s video is no exception. It features a young 5 month old Border Collie learning new tricks. It’s very sweet and cute.

Which leads me to a question, why do most of these wonderful videos feature Border Collies? Where are all the other dog owners? Why aren’t they making videos like this?

Let me know when you have an answer. I’m off to watch some more musical dog videos. 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – My Dog is my…

May 26, 2017 2 comments

This week’s video is an ad for Ruffwear. I  was drawn in by the images and the messages conveyed in it. There is something about a dog that makes you feel a little less alone in the world. If you have a dog, you will relate to this one for sure.

There are so many descriptions that apply to my dogs.  My dogs are my…

  • Comedians
  • Co-pilots
  •  Alarm clock
  • Hiking partners
  • Muses
  • Couch potatoes
  • Best friends
  • Family

How would you describe your dog? I look forward to hearing your answer to this question.

Happy Friday everyone! Have a lovely weekend.
