Favorite Video Friday – A day at the beach

January 19, 2018 3 comments

I don’t know about you and your dogs, but we’re feeling a little cabin fever here in Minnesota. Between the frigid temperatures and me getting the flu, my dogs and I have not had a lot of outdoor time. No walks at the park. No chasing ball in the yard. Not even a walk in the neighborhood.

We need a vacation. We need warmer temperatures so we can hike in the woods. We need an ocean, a beach and a tennis ball to chase, just like the one featured in this week’s video. If only….. (sigh)

Happy Friday everyone.

Favorite Video Friday – Getting your ya-yas out

October 5, 2017 1 comment

Don’t you ever feel like you just have to get it all out?

Maybe you’ve had a bad day. Or, maybe you worked really hard all week and just need to get your ya-yas out. Or maybe, you’ve felt cooped up all week and just really need to let loose.

Either way, when that moment comes and you want to carry on and shake it all off? Do it.

Not sure how to do it? Watch Candy the English Bulldog. She’s got the right idea. 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – The last hurrah to summer

September 1, 2017 1 comment

In Minnesota, summer begins on Memorial Day and ends on Labor Day.

I don’t mean that we ignore the technical dates that signify the beginning and end of summer (i.e., June 21 for the summer solstice and September 22 for the fall equinox), but we consider the start and end of summer to be when our lakes officially open and close (i.e., Memorial Day and  Labor Day).

So if we go by Minnesota time standards, summer ends this long Labor Day weekend. Our magnificent and highly-attended state fair ends on Labor Day, most kids head back to school the day after Labor Day, and the outdoor pools and lakes close on Monday.

That’s why so many of us are taking the time to get in that last hurrah. That last moment to camp before the kids get back to school, or to hit the fair before it ends, or to get in that last day at the lake before it closes down.

Dogs and owners will likely be taking advantage of this time too. We all want to give them that last chance to go for a swim before the cold weather hits (although technically, that could be several weeks away). There is even a local business who opens their pool to dogs at the end of the season . It’s the last hurrah of summer.

That’s why I thought it appropriate we celebrate this Labor Day weekend with a little pool time. The last hurrah to summer.

Have a happy and safe Labor Day everyone! 🙂

Favorite Video Friday – Biker and Dog

April 7, 2017 6 comments

I don’t know about you, but I often dream of getting away to a cabin in the woods and immersing myself in nature. I love the idea of waking up to the rising sun and the sounds of birds singing to their future loves. I want to hike the well-worn trails of the adventurers before me and take a nap under an old tree.

In all those dreams, there is always a dog beside me. My friend. My companion. My cohort. It would be hard to imagine myself without one.

I think that is why this week’s video find spoke to me. It features biker, Adam Morse, his dog, Flow (what a great dog name, huh?), and the Green Mountains of Vermont. I don’t know about you, but watching Adam and Flow just makes my dreams all the more urgent. What beauty. What companionship.

I hope you love this video as much as I did.

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – A Lab’s Life

February 24, 2017 1 comment

I don’t know if I have ever mentioned this before, but before I met Daisy I wasn’t a big fan of Labs. I thought they were too energetic, too hyper, and WAY TOO MUCH for me. I was a Sheltie girl. Shelties were my dogs of choice.

Of course, all my experience with Labs was in a shelter environment, where every dog is stressed, especially the Labs. Imagine having the need to run and play and being confined in a small kennel for almost 24 hours every single day. Wouldn’t you act out and look a little crazy? Yeah. No wonder I had no idea what a Lab could be like.

Labs are not only high energy and in need of exercise, they are also really smart and huge cuddlers. They are clowns, master sniffers and have a personality larger than life. They make you laugh, they make you cry, and they make your life even sweeter. I cannot imagine my life without Daisy, or  without a Lab in the future.

Maybe that’s why today’s Favorite Friday  video resonated with me. It captures the essence of a Lab and wraps it all up in music befitting a one. I hope you will like it. 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – Dogloquialisms

February 10, 2017 2 comments
Week 13 - Portrait: High Key #dogwood52 #dogwoodweek13

Cupcake and her teefies

Do you have any dogloquialisms you use to describe your own dog or dog activities? I was watching today’s Favorite Friday video and started wondering if my dogs had some of their own.

What is a dogloquialism you ask?

dog·lo·qui·al·ism: A dog word or phrase that is not formal or literary, typically one used in ordinary or familiar conversation.

Doodad clearly has several of her own. In fact, she has some pretty awesome ones.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized we did have some of our own. Here are a few of them.

Smushyface: That smushed doggie face your dogs get when they wake up from a deep sleep.

Poopsicle: The delicacy also known as frozen poop. (it’s embarrassing to admit that Daisy loves these.)

Teefies: Teeth that peek out when a Sheltie smiles at you.

So how about you? Do you and your dog have some dogloquialisms of your own? I’d love to hear about them.

Happy Friday everyone!
