What kind of song describes your dog?

Tonight, I was listening to some music and playing with my dogs. I don’t know about you, but I love music. It can be such a great reflection of my emotions – happy, sad, angry, silly, etc. Sometimes music brings me up when I am down or makes me dance when all I had wanted to do before was sit down and relax. Music has a way of moving us in various ways.

Music can also be a great way to define ourselves or our friends or a specific situation. And sometimes, it becomes our theme song (at least in our heads).

Thinking about music and playing with my dogs made me wonder… was there a song that I would consider a theme song for each of my dogs? And then, before I could even think about it some more, Jasper’s theme song entered my head.

Born to be Wild by SteppenWolf

Jasper was so easy, but what about Lady? The images that came to me immediately were of Lady flirting with all the boy dogs at the dog park, and with Jasper at home. I get such a kick out of watching her. When she flirts, she practically dances – play bows, jumping in the air, sashaying around. How could I not see her in West Side Story?

I Feel Pretty from Westside Story.

Daisy was the hardest one though. What song could possibly describe my sweet, shy girl? My survivor? My inspiration? Suddenly, it came to me. For those who know Daisy’s story and know how much I love my girl, it will make perfect sense. I know this is more of a love song, but it is sweet and beautiful and describes how I feel about Daisy perfectly.

Your Song by Elton John

So what about your dogs? What song would you choose as a theme song for your dog? What song comes to mind when you think of her or him?

My theme song for my dogs would definitely be “I Will Always Love You” – not the lyrics, but the title : )

I am so glad I got to read your comment this morning Alex. What a perfect song to wake up to in the morning. Penny is a lucky girl to have such a wonderful song as her theme song. Who doesn’t love the Beatles?

I would have to agree with you Natasha. I wish he had played it there. I love his music.

      Thanks Alex. 🙂

For one of the videos of Jasmine, I picked the song Simply the Best by Tina Turner. I think that song is perfect for her.

Love that song! You know? It fits Jasmine perfectly!

  5. September 25, 2012 at 12:16 AM

I love the songs you chose for the dogs, they are all quite fitting from what I know. My husband has deemed Blaze’s song is, ‘Born to be wild’ for her. I swear he is always singing it to her when we are walking her. I don’t have any songs for the other dogs, Although I just thought of Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood would work for Brut. 🙂

Have to think about that one a little longer. 🙂

Thanks 24 Paws. How funny that Blaze has Born to Be Wild too. Seems to fit him. 🙂
Bad to the Bone sounds like a good one for Brut too – although he has mellowed quite a bit since his bad to the bone days. I think you are allowed some time to think of your songs. You have way more dogs than I do. 🙂

Aww 🙂 Nanook and I’s song is “You’ve got a friend in me” by Randy Newman, you know the one from the opening of the original Toy Story? We’re a wee team and it suits us perfectly 🙂 “none of them will ever love you the way I do, it’s me and you boy” aww 😀

I LOVE that Song Catherine! I also love Randy Newman. What a great song choice.

For me i think it would have to be Bat out of hell by Meatloaf.

    Sheba.

Great choices for all three of them! I never would have thought of West Side Story but it suits Lady perfectly. She is just as sweet as Maria too, I am sure.

I wrote a post a while back about the four songs I usually associate with Shiva. Since I’ve determined that Joan Jett is her celebrity doppelganger, I’ve determined “Bad Reputation” should be her theme song.

Hee…. Well the first thing that came to mind was William Tell Overture, because she is just non-stop…. or one of Bachs fastest songs…. Maybe “Gotta Dance” (Gene Kelly), because she’s always on two legs….What’s the Kevin Bacon dance movie?

  11. September 25, 2012 at 8:13 PM

Right — Footloose! That’s the best!

LOL! You beat me to it! I was screaming Footloose in my head. 🙂

Mel, this would make an amazing topic for a blog hop! Hehe.

Hmmm… I’m having trouble coming up with songs for Bella and Tavish. For some reason, Jump by Van Halen is coming to mind for Tavish, because he has so much energy when it’s time to go for a walk. I feel like there’s a better one though. For Bella, I think she’s more of a ballad kind of gal. Perhaps “I’ll Be There for You”?

A blog hop! Great idea! I would expect you to create one of your creative renditions you know. 🙂
I like Jump. Is Tavish a jumper? He seems like he is a bundle of energy under all that cuteness. I also love Bella’s song selection. How sweet!

      • October 1, 2012 at 7:11 AM

Tavish is such a jumper… he never slows down! 🙂

I believe it! He’s adorable, but I always suspected he could run circles around people. 🙂

  13. September 27, 2012 at 8:56 PM

OMD, I was just thinking Jump for Cosmo, but I couldn’t decide between Van Halen Jump or Pointer Sisters Jump for my love!

  14. October 1, 2012 at 12:58 AM

For Dexter, it would be Canadian rocker Kim Mitchell “I Am A Wild Party”

Shoot! I keep trying to wath the video, but it just sits and clocks on me!

Georgy Girl! “Swinging down the street so fancy free. Nobody you meet would ever see the loneliness there.” That’s my girl. When I see pictures of happy smiley dogs, I wish she was more like that. But alas. Despite her crazy moments and ability to get the party going at the park, she is mostly quiet, introspective and a loner.

Maybe just more thoughtful and a cuddler (her Cushion might agree). 🙂

Gizmo’s theme song has to be “The Hamster Dance”…the song is goofy and so is Gizmo!
