Favorite Video Friday – The Singing Shepherd

November 28, 2014 7 comments

I don’t know about you, but I like to sing. I sing in my house. I sing while driving in my car. And, I sing to my dogs, wherever we are.

Thankfully, they they do not seem to mind my singing, not even when I make up songs about them.

The only time I was ever joined by a singing dog was when our dear friend, Henry Carl, joined us for a jaunt to the dog park. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I can say with any certainty that it was because he loved my singing. Instead, I suspect he may have been crying out from the pain it brought to his sensitive ears.

Maybe that is what this German Shepherd pup was trying to convey, but his vocals were so impressive I could not help but share. I hope it will bring you a smile.

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – A Fox and A Hound

May 1, 2014 16 comments

My friend Mary over at Dancing Dog Blog shared this video on her Facebook page yesterday. I found myself smiling and laughing as I watched these two friends have a grand old time playing with one another. They are truly charming.

Besides the Disney movie, where else can you find a cuter film featuring a fox and hound? Meet Sniffer and Rinni. Don’t they look like best of friends?

Maybe there is a message in this for all of us Homo Sapiens. What do you think?

Happy Friday everyone!

Favorite Video Friday – Best Friends

July 18, 2013 15 comments

Knowing I would be heading off to a protest this morning, I felt I needed to find something a little more zen this morning. I was amazed when I found this cute little video almost immediately – what is it they say “Seek and ye shall find?” Well, it worked.

This video will have your heart going pitter-patter, your eyes welling up with happy tears and your mouth squealing with delight. (Well okay, maybe not the tears part, but you get what I mean.)

Meet Dunder and Munster, the two most adorable best friends one could meet. I hope they will bring some lightness to your day and put some love in your heart.

Have a really awesome day everyone!

Dog park friends (in pictures)

Many of you have heard me talk about our dog park in previous posts. It’s one of our favorite places to go. It has a huge field in front, woods to the side and is patrolled by the park sheriffs on a regular basis. Most everyone who goes to our dog park walks with their dogs. I like that we all get exercise at the same time, the dogs and us.

I thought I would take some time out today to introduce you to some of our dog park friends. These are not all of our friends, but just some of the ones we like to walk with when we are there. They and their owners are awesome.

Favorite Video Friday – German Shepherd pool time

July 19, 2012 7 comments

Whew! This hot weather has me wishing I lived on a lake. How about you?

A friend and I were recently discussing how we wished we had a transporter like they had on Star Trek. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to transport yourself to a mountain lake? The weather has everyone talking drought (except for those in the United Kingdom where it has rained all summer), so I’m guessing the image of a lake or pool sounds lovely to most if us right now.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a transporter and I can’t give you a lake, so I did the next best thing and chose a video that is sure to cool you off, or at the very least, make you laugh. Enjoy this German Shepherd’s antics as she enjoys her swimming pool.

Happy Friday!

What’s Your State’s Most Popular Dog Breed?

March 28, 2012 8 comments

Labrador Retrievers seem to be the most popular breed throughout the United States.

Yesterday, I came across an interesting report by Kristen Seymour over at Vet Street. The headline caught my attention almost immediately “Top Dogs Across America: 10 Most Popular Breeds by State.” Who wouldn’t be interested to find out which breeds are most popular in their state? Not me!

I decided to take a stab at guessing what the most popular breeds were first. Most of my guesses were based on some of my old doggie clients and some of our most popular friends at the dog park, but would I be right?

Here were my guesses:

1. Labrador Retriever
2. Golden Retriever (My most popular and plentiful doggie clients.)
3. Labradoodle (I see them everywhere here.)
4. Yorkshire Terrier
5. German Shepherd
6. Alaskan Husky (We do live in Minnesota after all!)
7. Poodle
8. Pitbull Terrier (You wouldn’t think that an unpopular and much maligned breed would be on my list, but I think Minnesota may be a bit more progressive than most other states when it comes to pitbulls.)
9. Beagle
10. German Shorthair Pointer

(P.S. I would have chosen Mutt if I could have done so. It’s by far the most common type of dog I see everywhere in Minnesota.)

So how close was I? Check it out.

Minnesota
1. Labrador Retriever
2. German Shepherd Dog
3. Chihuahua
4. Golden Retriever
5. Shih Tzu
6. Yorkshire Terrier
7. American Pit Bull Terrier
8. Boxer
9. Australian Shepherd
10. English Springer Spaniel

Oh well. Five out of ten isn’t bad. Is it?

So what breed was most popular in your state?
What surprised you most about your state’s Top 10 Popular Breeds list?
