Dogs, Cats and Heros: We Remember the Pet Food Recall

Today is the three year anniversary of the Pet Food Recall. Can you believe it? Three years ago, I was frantically trying to find out if my dog’s food was on the recall list. Three years ago, our shelter was posting a new list of recalled pet foods as fast as it could be updated. Three years ago, a fellow pet sitter discovered that the reason her dog was so sick was because of the “special”food she had bought for him as a Christmas gift (yes, it took that long for the pet industry to come clean about what was going on). And to this day, I wonder if the loss of my dog Aspen wasn’t due to the canned dog food I fed her from Nutro.

Many pet parents lost a beloved pet because of carelessness, lack of communication and inaction and fear.

There were several people on the front lines who helped to let pet parents know about the dangers and which pet foods were on the list/not on the list. I honor those heros who worked behind the scenes to inform and help us and our pets when we didn’t know where to go for help:
