Animals: Fact or Fiction?

February 21, 2009 2 comments

If you’re like me, you have a parent who is relatively new to the internet. And, if you’re like me, you also receive a ton of forwarded e-mails from your parent (or parents ) sharing all sorts of new and urgent things that you have: a) either seen before, or b) would rather not receive at all. This includes all those funny and inappropriate jokes and/or stories and the infamous e-mail warnings and chain e-mails.

The last one I received claimed that a well-known member of the Israeli Mosad had made a speech talking about the next terrorist attack in America. Of course, I immediately went to Snopes.com to check it out. As expected, the story was another urban legend and completely false.

However, it got me to thinking about what other urban legends or incorrect information existed regarding animals. I was surprised to find that there were actually quite a few. I was also surprised to see how many I had accepted as fact (like the whole pigeons and throwing rice at a wedding story). I thought it would be worthy to share some with the rest of you.

Wild Inaccuracies (Inaccurate facts about wild animals)
Lethal Lurkers (Remember the one where a woman visiting Mexico brought home a rat that she thought was a dog?)
Crusader Habit (Various stories about products and pets – among others)

Check them out. See how many you thought were true!
