Favorite Video Friday – Jasper’s Bath Dance

December 30, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

This week I thought I would do something a little different and share three short videos of my dog Jasper. Today was bath day for he and Miss Lady and neither was thrilled with the prospect. But, the silliness that happens afterwards is always worth the sad looks I get when bath time is going on. Lady was a bit more reserved in her silliness than Jasper (as you will soon see), but then again, maybe she thinks ladies just don’t act like this. I hope you get a chuckle out of Jasper’s silliness. I know I did.
Happy Friday!

The silliness begins

The silliness continues

And continues…

Jasper is silly. Miss Lady is too refined to act that silly. Bet she sits there and rolls her eyes. The boys do when they get their baths. Maxwell always goes first. I’ll carry him up from the basement and while I’m washing Riley, I can hear Maxwell dropping on the floor and whinning. Thought it was the shampoo. Switched to the mildest from the vet and he still did. The vet said to go through the steps the same way but just use water. I did that and he still does it. He just does not like baths. I never get anything in his eyes or ears. Must just be one of those “issue” things that Shelties have 🙂

Yes he is silly Cindy. Goofy too!

Re: Maxwell – It sounds like it is the bath experience overall. You can try treats to help make it a more pleasant experience. I have tried doing the same with Jasper, but he won’t take them when he’s scared. But, maybe Maxwell will.

That’s just it, he doesn’t shake when I carry him down and he stands in the tub fine while he’s getting the bath. It’s just after. I’ll try the treats next time. Do you give them the treat before or after? Or both? They get a treat after the bath now. Actually this weekend they will get a bath. Lord knows they both love the treats. When I brush them or clip their nails, Maxwell goes first. Riley waits in line patiently for his turn.

I would try treats during and after Cindy. Maybe that will help. I love that Riley waits is turn. Guess he wants the treats bad enough not to stress the other stuff huh?

Yes. Jasper has always been silly. He makes me laugh all of the time. I believe Lady would have rolled her eyes if she could have done so. She looked at him like he was a lunatic, which he was. 🙂

You need to show videos of your dogs more often! They are just so cute and so much fun to watch.

I’ve only known one dog that actually enjoyed a bath, and that is the dog owned by my brother in law. He is a big behemoth of a mutt and will crash through the bathroom door and bail right into the tub when you are having a shower or a bath. I used to have to lock the door to keep him out!

I love the post-bath dances! Makes the whole episode leading up to it–the sad struggle to get out of the tub, the determination to shake on the human multiple times–worthwhile!

Me too Kirsten! I love the silly dances afterwards.

It’s too bad we can’t explain the after bath feelings to avoid the pre-bath sillies.

Now THAT would be nice Jan!

Thanks for watching them Robert! I always laugh at Jasper’s antics, but most especially after a bath. These silly dogs of ours!
BTW – I love your dog’s name. Just awesome!

Lady seems unimpressed by Jasper’s antics. My first dog, Princess, would rub her face on the carpets and bark like a mad man after a bath. It was not her favorite time. Jersey likes to hide under a blankie until she is totally dry. I’m not sure what Dexter’s after bath ritual is yet, since he’s only ever had one bath. The joys of owning short-haired dogs 😀

Lady was not only unimpressed Karen, she was confused by his crazy behavior. She looked at him like he had grown two heads. 🙂
I bet Princess made you laugh a lot with her antis. 🙂

Hee hee hee! Blueberry is the funny one after a bath here! She’ll roll and roll and roll like an alligator on her bed to get her stink back. It cracks me up every time! I don’t think there are too many things funnier than a dog after a bath!

You so need to videotape that! I bet she’s a hoot!

I saw a product recently to deal with after bath dancing–it was a bathrobe for dogs so they didn’t make your furniture all wet after a bath. I didn’t get the point. Where’s the fun in that?

I suspect dogs do that dance to get the smell of the shampoo out of their nose. Many dog shampoos are very flowery smelling and I don’t think dogs like it. If you could find an unscented shampoo, I wonder if Jasper would stop dancing.

I am with you Pamela. Now way I want to stop the bath dance! I enjoy it too much!
