My Ghost Cat – A Four-Pawed Haunting

My very first apartment had a lot of amenities I liked – a deck, off-street parking, a huge living room and a large bedroom with a huge closet. It also had something else… a ghost cat. I know. It sounds crazy doesn’t it?

The first time I knew I had a ghost cat was soon after I moved in. I was laying in bed, about to fall asleep, when I felt little cat paws walk up along the side of my body, alongside my leg, and then knead the mattress right next to my hip and lay down. I remember lying there frozen with fear. Did I just imagine that? Was I half asleep and just dreaming it? Was I losing my mind? It kind of freaked me out. The only way I could sleep that night was to tell myself that I had imagined it.

Over time I would come to realize that it wasn’t a dream. I really did have a ghost cat. And, he would often sleep by my side after kneading the mattress. Even after I got my two real cats, Nick and Sebastian, he would come up on the bed and follow the same old routine of walking along the side of my body, kneading the mattress and then curling up beside me. For some reason, it never seemed to bother my cats that there was another kitty, not to mention a ghost kitty, sleeping on my bed.

When I moved to a different apartment across town my ghost cat came with me. His routine was always the same and I began to find his presence comforting.

I once told my mother and sister about my ghost cat, but they just rolled their eyes and tried to humor me. They didn’t believe in ghosts. But I knew that what I was experiencing was real.

When I started traveling for business, my sister would come to stay with my cats so she could give Sebastian his insulin injection in the morning. One evening, I called her to see how my cats were doing and she informed me that she had had a visit from my ghost cat. She told me that the previous evening she had been almost asleep when she felt the little cat paws walking up from the end of the bed and then start to knead. She had assumed it was Nick or Sebastian, but when she looked, both cats were already sleeping next to her. I think she was a little freaked out by the whole thing, but it was nice to have some validation.

Somewhere along the way, my ghost cat just disappeared. I have often wondered what made him go. Was it the new bed and mattress that did it? He seemed to disappear right about that time. Or, did he just find someone else that needed his comforting more? I like to think it was the latter. How nice to think that he moved on to help someone else that needed him.

Have you ever had an experience with a ghost pet of your own?

This is very intriguing. I wouldn’t normally tell people I believe in ghosts. However, the universe is much bigger than any little person can understand. So why not?

Maybe using social media you can figure out where your ghost kitty ended up.

Found your blog via Twitter. This is so cool. I totally believe in the ghost cat! 🙂 Jess

Thanks Jess. I do too! Can’t say I’ve ever had a ghost dog or bird or any other animal, but the cat was cool.

It’s that time of year for ghost stories, isn’t it?!

I post on an old house forum, and people often tell stories of ghosts who come and spoon with them in bed, so why not a ghost cat?!

I’ve never personally had a ghosty experience, but I’m beginning to believe they’re possible.

I like the second option better – the ghost cat left for someone who needed his comfort more.

It is Ashley! I am so dying to read your forum now. How interesting that people have mentioned it there. So fascinating. I can’t even imagine the stories!
I also like to think my ghost cat left to help comfort someone else. I hate to think I somehow forced him out when I got rid of my old bed.

I think there are a lot of spirits among us that we don’t allow ourselves to think about with our scientific view of the world.

Agree Jan. I’m beginning to think there’s a lot of things we don’t know. I suspect we are all much more connected than we know.

  5. October 24, 2011 at 12:07 PM

I am not a believer in ghosts but I do believe you have experienced something very unusual. It’s impossible to say but I think it’s fascinating nonetheless. Anything is possible, right? I am glad you were so open to it all and your visitor was more comforting than frightening. I’d love to know if anyone else has encountered a ghost cat of their own.

I too have a ghost cat. There used to b a human ghost too, one night they were both here. The human ghost sits on the bed and I can feel the bed go down and the covers pull. One night i was poked in the sole of the foot. 3 times with a pause inbetween and the fourth the “finger” was left on the sole and dragged down and off. The cat is amazing the things he does. Last night he visited 5 times. Once he crossed over one leg and gently pawed the other calf. He has walked up the side of me and grabbed me with both front paws one on each side of my butt and held tight. Then he did it again. This time he got an even tighter grip and pulled and twisted!! Then walked away. I had to finally tell it that that was enough I had to get some sleep. I didn’t feel him for the rest of the night! I can hear when he jumps off the bed and hits the floor. The human ghost I feel bad for: one night I bitched him out to get away and he left and hasn’t been back. Neither has ever harmed me. They are not benevolent. That’s why I felt bad. He must’ve been hurt by me yelling at him. This is ALL TRUE! I WAS NOT ASLEEP OR IN A HAZY STATE OR ANYTHING. I was wide awake every time. I m now going to take a nap and see if the cat shows up in the daytime.

      • February 25, 2015 at 4:38 PM

My bad- malevolent. Todayon my nap the cat would not come past my feet. Seemed like he wanted to but would not. I must ve spooked HIM last note. Lol

I believe in ghosts because I was visited by one. (Long story, but I’ve never been so scared in my life. It was the spirit of an old lady who’d passed away that spring.) Anyway, I believe in cat ghosts, too, because Zelda has visited me. I’m sure of it. It’s the same thing described here – I feel her jump on the bed and settle down to sleep. When I look for Nick, Nora, and Nellie, no one is there. Unlike the dead woman’s spirit, Zelda’s spirit doesn’t scare me – it’s a comfort knowing she’s near.

Well now I’m really intrigued Kristin! I never knew you had seen a person ghost!
I’m not surprised that Zelda came back to cuddle up next to you. She loved you as much as you loved her. I think it’s comforting to know that they want to come back. I actually felt the same way about my ghost cat too.

Totally believe in ghosts. Recently we had to help my mother in laws Beagle cross the rainbow bridge and I swear that I hear him outside howling sometimes. I have to catch myself from thinking that he is really out there:)

      October 24, 2011 at 10:02 PM

To be honest Jen, I was always a bit skeptical about ghosts until my ghost cat came along. Now I totally believe they exist.
I bet you do hear him howling out there. I have heard people talk about hearing their dog’s dog collar tags jangling after they died. I’ve also had two more people tell me privately about their ghost cats. Guess I’m not alone after all! I hope you find it comforting that you can hear your mother-in-law’s beagle bay.

  9. October 25, 2011 at 2:05 AM

Well, until I get my own Ghost Cat, I remain skeptical. Maybe your Ghost Cat felt that his work was done & someone needed him more.

That’s so cool Susan. Maybe she was trying to tell you she was okay. Isn’t that nice? I hope my dogs do that for me someday.

Maybe the kitty’s human passed away and he got to join him at the Rainbow Bridge!

I also had a ghost cat and was happy to see I’m not the only one. My cat didn’t sleep with us but we would catch glmpses of him/her occasionally. Like you, it followed us when we moved, but I haven’t seen the ghost cat in a very long time. I miss that cat.

Well … I certainly feel better. On March 7, 2012 my 11 month old Tuxedo cat Buster got out of the house and ran off. There were a few sightings that could have been him, but nothing every came of my frantic dashes out to my car so that I could investigate the sighting. Unfortunately he never did return.

It’s over 3 month and we still miss him. One day while driving home from town I thought to myself that if I could only have closure … one way or another. If someone found him and took him in … well than that would be wonderful. On the down side if he ended up across the rainbow bridge where all animals that leave this world go … well that okay too as I would know that either way he was being taken care of.

I guess it was a couple of nights later while I was reading in bed that after I had put down my novel and turned out the light I felt something strange. I stayed very still and I could feel what felt like Buster kneading the mattress alongside of me. He would do that every night right before he settled in beside me to go to sleep. It went on for only seconds and then stopped. I mentioned it to my husband the next day and he just shrugged his shoulder when I asked him if he thought it was possible that Buster had come back to reassure me that he was safe on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I had another visit from him about a week ago. This time I smiled and reached out and gently patted the area where the kneading was going on. If it was him, and I think it was, I wanted him to know that I was satisfied that he was safe and at peace with all the other animals that have gone on to heaven before him.

He hasn’t come back yet, but I kind of hope he does as I feel good knowing that he loved his home enough to come back …even for a short visit now and then.

Oh Annie. That is so beautiful. I have no doubt it was him. I am so glad he came back to let you know. Just knowing one way or another is better than not knowing, don’t you think?

Oh I do know about ghost cats. I have one. I first saw the cat about 6 years ago when we first moved in to this house. the cat was just a shadow out of the corner of my eye. Dark grey and fluffy. I had two of my own cats at the time. One of the cats became very naughty and destructive. Started peeing all over the house and getting very mean for no reason. The other one seemed fine and had no adverse reactions. I later got pregnant and have had two children here. We had to give the one cat away as she started attacking the babies. I still saw the ghost cat here and there and my husband would not believe me. A good friend came to visit one day and later as we were talking she mentioned she didn’t know I had that grey cat too. She had seen the cat also. Now, I have baby monitors all over the house. There has been three occasions where my cat is sleeping nearby and I can hear the cat meowing very mournfully through the monitor. My husband STILL does not believe it and thinks it’s some interference from some other house. Oh well. I recently found out this was an animal rescue house. Surprise surprise!

Wow! That is amazing Mary Jane. I wonder if the ghost cat was dominant and the other cat felt threatened? At least your friend was able to validate your experience. I think my family always thought I was crazy until my sister experienced my ghost cat.

HI. I think I have a ghost cat too. and even though i have rescued cats and am a cat lover.. it really freaks me out. Whatever cat this is I dont know if its one of mine that passed away or if it is a cat that came with this house because we moved here about a year and a half ago. I have had many cats.. 5 pass away over about a 7 year period when i lived in Michigan. but quite a few years ago..then we moved to florida a year and a half ago. I still have 9 cats but to get sleep after 4:00 a.m. I shut the door and sleep in a catless room down the hall. this is where i get visited by this cat ghost! It started about 5 months after we moved here.. went on for a week or so then it disappeared for a couple months. Now its back!! If it is one of mine thats passed on… why would one of them suddenly decide to visit me as a ghost now? If i knew it was one of mine it might not freak me out so much but for now it does!! I am even getting afraid to go to bed in that room because it will be there walking on the left side of my body up to my head.. after I look it stops.. then when i start to go to sleep again say 15 minutes later its at it again.. its so weird!! I know its a cat from sleeping with kitties my entire life.. i know their weight and how they walk on my bed. I guess i am going to tell myself it is one of my ones ive lost because i absolutely loved all of them then maybe it wont scare me!!

I was scared at first too Marla. But, over time I realized the cat wasn’t hurting me. It was just cuddling. How can you fear a cat that just wants to cuddle – ghost or not? I hope that your ghost cat becomes less scary and more comforting soon. I think it says a lot about you that one would want to stick around because they like being with you.

      • September 18, 2012 at 8:38 PM

I agree with Mel… do your best not to be scared, because you’re giving that cat a lot of comfort. It might be lonely and it obviously likes you. It might be one of your old kitties, but even if it’s not, you’re still giving it love and comfort no matter what. I know it’s easier said than done, not to be frightened, but you can only try.

Hi I have a ghost cat to, I’m not a believer in ghosts or any thing but a couple of weeks back after reading my book in bed I laid down and straight away felt what only felt like a cat walking over the bed I just thought I was imaging it . But then two nights ago same thing happened I got up turned on the light nothing there laid back down I done this three times, last night I went to bed same again so I just lay there it walked up and downs few times then seemed to settle down behind a bit eerie but not scary, at any time I think I’m going to hear it purr it feels so real.

Very Interesting comments! I Googled “My cat walks on my bed” and found a number of sites and have been reading for about 2 hours. I thought my experience at present was very unique. Evidently it is not.
My story would take several pages to tell and is such a wonderful revelation beyond what man thinks he knows. These experiences are obviously shunned by the educated scholars of ‘whatever’ and if you let “them” persist you may think that you are losing it. Pity them that are not privy to communication on another plane.
My experience is with my constant companion Kissa who died in my hand mid April 2012. And I write this now with tears in my eyes. She is a most beautiful cat.
I would love to communicate personally with people who share the same experience as I.

I felt like I wanted to share my ongoing experience. It is a bit long but I have spent much time putting it together although it is really not complete.

      My Friend and Companion
      Kissa

My daughter and her husband who live in south western Ontario raise wolfhounds and had five along with three cats approximately six or seven years ago. The oldest wolfhound began to chase one of her cats, Kissa, who was about 17 years old and my daughter was afraid that the dog might kill it. She asked if we would take her. We lived 2 hours north of Toronto at the time and were happy to adopt Kissa.
Kissa was a man’s cat, being raised by my son-in-law from a tiny kitten, and we bonded as she became my constant companion. I began to get these visitations when I lay down on my bed. It was like something was crawling around on it like a cat walking around. Several times I got up and turned on the lights to check to see if Kissa was in the room but she was not. I thought it must be a ghost spirit that lived in this house and simply wrote it off to that.
We moved to south western Ontario about 15 minutes from my daughter’s home in July of 2008 bringing Kissa with us. I thought then we would leave the ghost spirit back in Huntsville but I was mistaken. Soon after getting settled into our new home the same phenomenon began. I would get visitations on my bed with a cat walking about my side and over my legs. I mentioned it to my son-in-law who said that it was probably Kissa “astral projecting”. Apparently cats are very good at this. I just looked up the definition of astral projection in Wikpedia and to me it is nothing more than a joke of man trying to explain something that he cannot comprehend because it is outside of his realm of knowledge. I feel we have to accept these experiences as REAL but unexplainable. Is it astral projection, paranormal, ghosts – who knows and how do we explore this plane?
I go to bed early as I trade the futures currency markets which open in London, UK, at 3:00am E.S.T. Kissa also is a night cat who would wake me often early in the morning around 2 to 4am. A number of times after going to bed I would get these cat visitations on my bed with walking over my legs, along my side and settling down. I would get up, come downstairs and tell my wife and see where Kissa was to see if she had been in my room. These occurrences would take place most times before I went to sleep. Generally she would be sleeping on the couch in the family room. We had to hydrate Kissa for about a year and a half as her system was failing and finally had to put her down in April of 2012. I loved her and missed her so much.
Months after Kissa was gone I began to have the same recurring type of cat visitations on my bed before falling asleep. They were and are real to this day including last night July 13, 2013. I get the visitations almost every day except the occasional weekend when I stay up much later than my regular ‘go to bed time’. To me the number of experiences I have had is absolutely phenomenal. You see I have not only one cat who now visits me but three and sometimes four. I apologize if you find me long-winded and repetitive. This is such an amazing experience I wish to share and try to explain my thoughts.
As all good parents we supplied the pet cemetery for my daughter on our 6 acres in Huntsville while we lived there during the time she and her husband lived in Toronto with three cats and a couple of beautiful dogs. Eddy, a 22 year old plus cat and companion of Kissa, died and she was buried at our place alongside other precious family pets. My daughter got another kitten, Dahlia as a companion for Leia the other kitten that they have. Dahlia got distemper and had to be put down when she was about 4 or 5 years old. She too was buried alongside Eddy. My daughter moved with her family to south western Ontario where she resides today on an 11 acre ravine property which now provides the family pet cemetery. Kissa now sleeps there alongside Misty who was a cat that belonged to a relative living in Toronto. Thus I feel my four cats that are all tied through a strong bond, namely Kissa, may be identified. Will I ever know? Before I go on I would like to share a url page that my daughter posted of Kissa
      http://www.arahu-iw.com/our-felines/kissa.html
As I stated my experience started while Kissa was alive and two of her buddies were buried close by. This experience continued after we moved. Today Kissa is gone and the multiple cat visitations continue on a daily basis. In April of 2013 I had a hernia operation and my cat was with me alongside and at my feet physically in the hospital just prior to the surgery. After the surgery I would lie on my bed for rest in the afternoon. The multiple visitors at that time were incredible. Kissa often slept on my bed in the afternoons so it was not surprising to me that this occurred. We recently went to Alberta on holidays for 10 days and my cat visitations continued everywhere we went. There was only one cat that went travelling with us, Kissa. The last night prior to our flight home in June was near Calgary airport in a small hotel room with a single queen bed. My nocturnal visitor was very agitated I am sure at the cramped quarters and three times jumped up into bed between my wife and myself waking me on two occasions. My wife did not feel anything. So, these visitors travel and have the sensation of feel. I can feel the weight of the cats on my legs. I can feel warmth from their person and feel them walking about on the bed. I can feel one doing what I call a ‘dough-boy’ kneading the pillow above my head quite often and feel a purring sensation type of vibration. These are not all body reflexes, dreams or hallucinations. These are real physical occurrences. I find that generally the feeling of weight and movement are best transmitted while lying under covers although last night I felt one cat on my heel and leg that was not covered. Kissa rarely slept with me and then only for a short time. She did however wake me quite often and still does occasionally to this day. Kissa would stretch upright and tap me on the leg to get my attention. I have experienced this tapping on several occasions. Simply amazing! I have an amazing story about a mouse that I think tipped me off that Kissa had come home.
I could go on and on.
Thank you Mel for starting this blog. I thought it an appropriate place to post my experience.

Hi, I also have a ghost cat, I really thought I was going mad when the visits started over a year ago, I think it’s my Burmese Phoebe, she died in my arms after a truly horrible accident at home, I was totally heartbroken. Phoebe was not just a cat she was convinced she was human and behaved accordingly, stubborn and as determined to have her own way as any teenager. She visits me almost every night, no sooner do I get into bed and I feel her jump on and immediately starts needing my feet she does this for quite a while and then walks across me and starts needing at me again, she will sleep over my feet, on top of me when I lay on my side, between my husband and I, she has only once come up to my face and it did freak me out, I had to get out of bed and sit in another room to calm down. Now a year on I am no longer fearful and look forward to her coming to visit me, I reach out to her to stroke where she is laying and talk to her, sometimes I call her to come and lay by my pillow and she does respond. I have only recently told my husband, mum and sisters about the visits and was surprised that they didn’t doubt me at all, in fact they are really interested and are always asking about her, as I am writing this she has just come and sat on my feet :)) she was always interested in anything I was doing and had to be in on it. Phoebe has also visited my spare bedroom and is quite often in the kitchen with me, two days ago I was leaning over the kitchen counter and she jumped up onto my back, She is definitely getting more active as time passes and I love having her with me. I am now worried as I will be moving in a few weeks and am scared I will loose her. It used to be the cat on the bed that kept me awake at night…….now it’s the thought of it not being on my bed in the future that’s keeping me awake.
I am so pleased to be able to share my experiences with people who understand how special it is :)))

      • October 8, 2013 at 6:51 PM

        Hi Jenn
This is really cool to hear about your experience. Your Phoebe is even more active than my Kissa. DO NOT WORRY for one moment that she will not move with you. I am sure her spirit lives within you and she will be with you always.
My Kissa travels with me wherever I go. I had a hernia operation back in April and she was at my feet on the gurney before the operation. It just blows me away. I too look forward to going to bed to have the visitations.
Can you feel warmth and the weight of her? Have you ever heard her? Our experiences are so much alike even up to our loved one dying in our hands. It would be neat to explore just exactly what and where this experience takes place. It is not in the head that is for sure as it is truly a physical happening. I feel so blessed to be able to experience something that most of mankind has no idea about. I feel like I am an explorer into the unknown.
        Thanks for posting Jenn

Hi Bill, Thanks so much for replying, it means a lot to me to have someone to share my experiences with, someone who understands exactly what it’s like 🙂 How lovely that your Kissa was there for you before you went into surgery she must love you so much, sounds like she needs to know your ok and let you know she is there with you wherever you go. I can feel the weight if Phoebe on me, I can feel her walking across me and settling down on the bed beside me, I am scared to move once she has settles in case she moves off. I can feel her jump on the bed, always on the same spot, this happens within seconds of me getting into bed so I am now convinced she waits for me or follows me to my room, ready for bed, she did this when she was living. Yes, I can feel the warmth of her on me and around me, Some nights the feeling of her is so strong I truly believe there is a living cat on my bed and actually have to look to make sure there isn’t. I do sometimes think I can hear a very faint purring and I do feel the vibration of her purr. Other nights she can be a bit playful jumping on and off the bed and jumping over my legs, a bit like she is playing with a toy and keeps loosing it, it’s the oddest experience I have ever had. Can you feel the way kissa is laying on you? I mean can you tell where her head is and the position she is in ? Does she also play? I have had so many experiences with Phoebe in the last year and not only at night, she constantly surprises me. If you want to hear about them let me know and I will happily share them with you. Thank you for reassuring me that I will not lose my Phoebe when I move, I have been worrying myself that she would feel abandoned, unloved and unhappy. We are truly blessed to have this amazing experience :)) I am not sure I will ever be able to get my head around what is happening but I now accept that there are great things happening that can only enrich our life and it does not matter that we don’t understand it, just be honoured we have been chosen to continue to have Kissa and Phoebe in our lives.
Please keep me updated on Kissa and thank you again for replying.

I live in a rented house in SE Michigan, have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They are not allowed to sleep with me because if they startle my husband, he may hurt one of them inadvertently. We have been in this house for a year and a half and about 3-4 months ago I started feeling what felt like a cat walking up beside me….one time it got up behind me and head-bumped the back of my shoulder, not once, not twice, but THREE times! I wasn’t feeling well at the time so I rolled over and yelled…..it didn’t bother me for a while, but the last week or so, it comes to me just about every early morning, AFTER my husband gets up. I don’t suppose I will worry about it being something demonic or anything unless it scratches or bites me or something. I do know that the lady that owned this house died here, and found out that she did, indeed, have a cat.
Thanks for letting me share and for making me not feel like a kook!

OMG Cindy! I laughed with the head bump. I never had a ghost cat who did that, but I think I would have laughed. Have to agree, if it started scratching I would be done. You are not a kook. I think it’s amazing how many people have had this experience before.

I lived with a cat I got as a kitten when I was 4 or 5. He was almost 20 when he passed away in his sleep. The last time I saw him I was moving my sister’s old bed out of my room and he kept sleeping in weird places so I shooed him out so I wouldn’t squash him. I always felt guilty that my last interaction with him wasn’t a snuggle.

Anyhow, shortly after he passed I was still grieving and was lying in bed just missing him so much, trying to get to sleep. As I was drifting off I felt the soft indent I was so familiar with, the feeling of my cat jumping up on my bed.

I was freaked OUT since I was raised not to believe in ghosts. Finally, after it kept happening I began to realise it was my cat, not a hallucination or some sleep thing. I found this blog through google since I finally told my best friend about it and was curious to see if others had experienced it.

I should note, unlike several other weird experiences I have had, I have never felt menaced by this.

Just have to share this ongoing experience with you. My cat(s) come into my bed almost every night without fail. Last night I was feeling down and a bit like a shit (however that feels) for backing my wife’s 2012 Mazda MX5 into my utility trailer and causing about $1,200.00 damage. It is her baby. Never get angry and back up fast!
Went to bed about 6:45pm (I get up about 3:00am or so to trade currencies) and the cats immediately get into bed with me. There were three on this occasion. One nestles in on my right leg pushes and shoves and then settles in. She weighs the most. The second one moves about on my left leg back and forth until she settles down. A third one crosses over my legs on the left side of me and moves up to my pillow above my head and starts kneading around doing the “dough boy”, settles in and starts to purr. I can feel the purring in the pillow and do not know if it is so clear that I think I hear it. I continually talk to my Kissa to come and visit me close and she does – almost scary like – right up to my face and I can feel her on my left arm. I sleep on my face with no pillow in the prone position. I generally have a very light sheet as cover. The two lying on my legs were getting heavy and I wanted to turn over to the right side but did not want to disturb them. Finally my left shoulder said I had to turn and the one that was on the pillow comes down and walks behind me. This lasted for 45 minutes.
I wanted to tell you this because of the time they are with me and that in fact I am sure it is Kissa who responds to me when I call her. This I have experienced many times before, her response.
This is just truly amazing and I would be so lost without the constant visitations. I truly hope that all you folks that experience this appreciates that this is communication on another plane/level/dimension – I do not know what.

I felt like I was special, but I guess not. My cat or cats started visiting when I moved into my new house. I had no idea. My bed also vibrates. The cat purring? Not violently, but like a car running. It doesn’t always happen, but some time. When my 3 year old grandson spends the night I get short visits. I love it. Look forward to it every night.

I think you are still special Gina. I suspect there are a few of us out there, but not a lot. I love that you get to experience it too. 🙂

You’re so sweet. I now look forward every night to my visits. There are two of them. One sleeps on my feet, the other on my arm or chest. They let me move around a bit, and have the t.v. I can see indentations on my down comforter, But nothing more. I don’t know who they are. One more thing. One night I had on a long sleeve shirt and he started climbing up my sleeve. Only to my elbow. That was special. How many folks to you think are aware of this?

I had a similar experience just last night. I am staying in a Hotel in Ocean City, MD….having issues with my boyfriend I decided to take off for the weekend. Last night as I was laying in bed about to fall asleep…I felt something jump up at the foot of the bed…walk up towards the top of the bed but what I did was grab at it…then it was gone. Let me say….I have had experience my whole life so this didn’t scare me. I am hoping for another encounter tonight.

I am so glad you weren’t frightened. Crazy experience though isn’t it? I felt it the other night and think it was my cat Nick coming back to cuddle. I hope so anyways.

    Jenn :
Hi Bill, Thanks so much for replying, it means a lot to me to have someone to share my experiences with, someone who understands exactly what it’s like How lovely that your Kissa was there for you before you went into surgery she must love you so much, sounds like she needs to know your ok and let you know she is there with you wherever you go. We are truly blessed to have this amazing experience ) I am not sure I will ever be able to get my head around what is happening but I now accept that there are great things happening that can only enrich our life and it does not matter that we don’t understand it, just be honoured we have been chosen to continue to have Kissa and Phoebe in our lives.
Please keep me updated on Kissa and thank you again for replying.

Hi Jenn, sorry for the late response. I have been a bit preoccupied. I would love to hear about your ongoing experiences. They really sound most interesting. Now that the cooler weather has come I am sleeping under a light comforter on the bed. I do not feel Kissa with the same intensity as before. However she is still there every night without fail. The last couple nights she has been quite evident moving about on my legs and wandering up to my face. It just urks me so that when I have to open my eyes to see because of the real feeling she is not apparent. It is like the ruling body of the beyond says you can only do this or that. Perhaps one day there will be a break-through on communication.
It has been more than a few weeks now and I presume you have moved. Did Phoebe move with you? Please share your ongoing experiences.

I would have rolled my eyes and humored someone if they had told me that their cat was haunting them till early this morning! that’s when I felt the light steps of my long gone kitty Capt. Purr Ball walking on my bed to only curl up in the corner of my bent knees! I thought I was dreaming or going crazy but either way I was frozen with fear, Capt. Purr Ball use to lay on my head or my face when he wanted to eat while I was sleeping and that’s what I felt, light paw steps along the side of my leg, stop, laydown and curl up by my knees then up to walk along the curve of my back and then all of a sudden suffocating pressure over my head with popping sounds in my ears, I tried to scream but nothing came out and then all of a sudden it was gone! I GOT OUT OF BED AND STAYED ON THE COUCH !! I was so shaken yet I wonder did my kitty just come back to keep me company??? my husband is deployed and my only child is all grown up so I’m alone a lot…what do I do? pullout his old toys? set out a dish of food? or help him move on?

    • March 19, 2014 at 3:11 PM

Stacy. Enjoy the presence of your cat back with you. I hope mine stay forever. I look forward to going to bed for their constant companionship and wonder what shape will they be when I die? Will I be re-united with them? Will I be able to open my eyes suddenly one night and see them?
Please do not start this demonic evil spirit thing that so many people write about this occurrence. It is beyond man’s knowledge and should be exciting not some scripture of haunting and punishment and and and. Man is the weird creature thinking there is nothing greater than he and must reason what it is that cause this. Never mind. IT JUST IS! Accept it. I am not being clawed to death and they comfort me into sleep every night without fail. Not just at home but also when I am away. Not just at night but through the day should I lie down for a nap. FANTASTIC. I pity the people who are not able to experience this happening. Consider yourself gifted. I do.
Curious about the legs and feet like you describe. That seems to be common in almost all posts. Mine included.

Thank You for your reply, it is comforting to read what you wrote and that others have had the same sort of experience as well.
I’m not afraid to go to bed and I firmly believe that demonic entities feed off of fear if they exist , I am having to re evaluate some of my beliefs after this happened though but one thing is for certain , something with paws walked along the side of me as I did feel the bed push down under the weight , I have a thick foam mattress so it is slow to rise back up after pressure is put on it and it takes a deal of pressure to make it move down as it is, this thing with paws flopped down in to the curve of my bent knees and ONLY Capt. purr ball did that !!! I have had cats before but Capt. was the only one that would lay right there AND flop down on my face when he wanted to wake me or just get my attention.
I look forward to going to bed tonight for the first time since my husband has been gone, tonight I may lay awake or pretend to sleep in hopes my purr ball comes back.
Thank you again for your reply.

I had the best cat in the world. She was very protective over me and hated other females (women). She was diagnosed with diabetes and passed after sudden kidney failure one morning beside my bed. A few weeks went by and I would notice strange things happening around my house. Paw hitting the kitchen floor, as if she was jumping off the counter and every so often the blinds that hang from my french-doors would really move like she was walking between them. I tested everything to see what could make the blinds move like this by themselves, whatever– and I have come up with nothing. I’ve tried the air/heat, fans, wind, etc., Nothing. It takes a bit of force/momentum to move my blinds like that. She is still around and I hope she follows me for the rest of my life. Hope to see you again ‘Cat’ – Love, Bruce

Hey Stacey, are you the Stacey in posts above? If not please read my posts above. They are all very true and from the heart and they still go on today, two and one half years after my cat passing. Welcome the opportunity to experience something that man cannot comprehend and few are as lucky as you and I.

Greetings, everyone — Thrilled to have found this post. After a few years of ghost cat visits, I finally got online tonight just to see if others have had this experience. My ghost cat sounds much like yours… I may have one or two. Usually, the ghost cat seems to be my beloved deceased cat Cookie — a very light and nimble cat who lived to the age of 21 and died 5 years ago. She was absolutely my “soul” pet of all time. Yet last night, I felt a heavier cat walk across my legs and onto the bed. This may well be Cookie’s “brother” Spock, who passed away a few years prior. The jump on the bed was decidedly heavier, as was the kneading. I’m not sure why suddenly another cat seems to be joining, as it has been Cookie’s lightweight pads across the bed I’ve felt for many months now. The thing is, these occurences are becoming more, not less, common. I am wondering if anyone has any idea as to WHY our cats are returning. Are they having trouble resting in peace? Are they otherwise unhappy with the “afterlife,” whatever that may look like? Or do they simply want to stay with us forever? (This I would welcome, as I miss both these cats very much.) My husband, a very rational doctor-type as well, also felt the ghost cat one night. He sat up and looked around, and I asked what he was doing… he told me he felt the cat. We do have two other cats who seem completely oblivious to this ghost cat situation. For me, this confuses the matter even more. Any ideas on what exactly is happening to us all?

I believe you. I saw my cat in a black cat form, he passed last year.I got up and looked down and he passed right in front of me he took 3 steps, then took a big leap into nothing. His passing was very sad, hard and emotional for my son and myself. I feel he was letting me know he wasn’t in pain and happy. I can find peace now.

When we moved into our house fourteen years ago we brought our three cats with us. One was a very overweight white and orange tabby boy named Tigger who was kinda doppy but very sweet. One night he got out and he was eaten by Coyotes in our back yard. Ever since then we have felt him walking up the bed. It was strange at first, because we would be lying down and think one of the other cats had jumped up. We would reach down with our hand expecting a real cat to rub against it, but when none did, we would look around and realize there was no cat on the bed. This has been going on now for all these years. My husband feels it, I feel it, and my teenagers all feel it too. It doesn’t scare us at all, it’s just Tigger, he “lives” in our house just like the rest of our cats. A few years ago, it stopped happening and I was sad, but now he seems to have come back because I felt him walking on the bed again the other day, and tonight my fifteen year old came downstairs and said she felt Tigger walking on her bed again and brush against her leg. It startled her because she hadn’t felt it in so long. I don’t know why he stays, or why he left for a while, or why he is now back. It continues to surprise me everytime, however, because with real cats in the house, I always think its one of them until I look and don’e see anything. But I like it, and I always say, “Hi Tigger” when I feel him on the bed. As a cat lover, I take it as a good sign that my cat wants to stay. Cats seek out positive energy in real life, so I take it as a compliment that he wants to be with us still.

I don’t know whether to say how sorry I am for your loss or how wonderful for your gain! It’s a crazy thing to feel them walking on your bed, isn’t it? I love that he comes back to you and cuddles up with you. I think it is a great compliment that he wants to stay with you!

I know it sounds strange but I have a ghost cat that followed me to Texas and back home to NJ. I feel it jump on the bed every night and purr and then lay down. It even goes on my lap and if I lay on my back it will go on my chest. It use to Greek me out but I an pretty much use to it. I have seen it many times. I know it’s strange. But it is happening.

I am currently dealing with a ghost cat. I moved into a basement apartment a few months ago and the first couple of months never felt anything but in the last month i have been visited every night and all night long. The first time i encountered the ghost it was on a Tuesday at 6:00 am and i felt something jump on my bed, walk around my feet and then started making “muffins”/pawing on my comforter. I thought i was losing my mind. Then it happen the next night and the next night to now. Instead of being scared i talked to it and now it feels so comfortable. I can hear it purr, feel its whiskers, feel his breath, feel his foot print and smell him from time to time. He walks all over my bed now and lays on my pillow and my chest and next to my side. I just talk to him and air pet him because i cannot see exactly where he is but he is happy. One in a lifetime experience.

And people think we r imagining it. Yes they do become very familiar and , I would say passionate is not too strong of a description. One time one of mine was shivering. IT took awhile but I kept patting the spot between my legs and it finally came up and laid there. And stopped shivering!

I also have a ghost cat. Actually two of them. I have had them for a while. They are on my bed every night. I know it sounds strange but it’s true. I have gotten a costume to them.
        It’s gets easier. Dave

My cat Ziggy had to be put down a few months ago, he had cancer in he’s kidney. My family and I were distraught, especially my 10 yr old daughter who loved him dearly as we all did… But u have need noticing scratches on my arm … With no explanation how they got there.. I play guitar so have no long nails.. So scratching myself in the night is impossible. I often talk to him as if he were here and say hi to him as we come in through the garden where we buried him. But last night I was asleep , I have no partner sleeping with me, and was woke up by something sitting on my bed.. I moved and felt another weight of some sort come down in me… I didn’t really sleep after that… Could it have been Zig.. Come back ?? I do hope so!!

Had an experience last night .I do not have a cat but I had a few in the past who have passed. I felt something move its way up my bed as I was sleeping and walk onto my back and I felt the kneading on my back like a cat would do with its paws.I waited about 30 seconds to wrap my mind around what I was experiencing then I finally had to switch positions so it would stop.

I have been having the exact same experience for over four months. Mine is not as predictable as it walks up by my head at times or lays next to my stomach when I’m on my side. It also lays on my legs or feet sometimes and I can feel it’s body and weight. It just started happening out of the blue one day. I’m trying to figure out what this means. My son has scared me by telling me it’s demonic but I know better. It’s always with me when I’m sitting on my bed. I can feel it walking around and hear it purring. I have heard a meow a few times. I’m an empath and have been very stressed out about my life and lonely. I think it came to keep me company and comfort me. I actually look forward to getting in bed and having it snuggle next to me lol. Im about to move 2 hours away and im wondering if it will move with me. I hope so lol. My mom does believe me and I can talk to her about it so I’m lucky in that way. She knows I feel spirits and we actually saw a spirit at the same time once while I was as visiting her.

Cindy I read your story this morning and I will guarantee that the cat will move with you. I say that because of my own personal experiences over the past 8 years. I am the Bill who has a cat called Kissa. While travelling over 2,000 miles away my cat was with me when I went to bed. In friend’s homes and in motel accommodation. You see we flew out west for our trip and she obviously travelled with us. While lying on operating room gurneys several times my cat was with me. While recuperating in hospital beds my cat was with me.In the middle of the night 3 or 4 am my cat will wake me by walking on my bed .Two nights ago she gave a loud meow and woke me. That for me is quite rare. I have only heard her meow a couple times. I have told countless people when my cat is with me as a laugh when she is there. It is such a pleasure to know that she is with me. I am sure as I tell people my story they probably think I have lost it, but as I keep saying I feel sorry for those who do not, have not, cannot experience this phenomenon of something greater than man’s knowledge.
Cindy, your cat will be there with you!
