Animal Celebrity Showdown – Who would you choose?

I am not a big celebrity follower, but last week I happened to see a news release from Ipsos.com featuring recent polling results for the most popular and least popular celebrities in America.

Betty White won the list as the most popular and most trusted celebrity, while Paris Hilton took the top of the list for least popular.

It got me to wondering… If there was a poll asking animal lovers which celebrities they would place at the top of their popular and unpopular lists when it comes to animals, whom would they choose?

I’d definitely put Michael Vick at the top of my least popular list, but when it comes to most popular I have a hard time deciding. Victoria Stilwell? Andrea Arden? Ian Dunbar? Patricia McConnell? Hmmm.. Tough decision.

Who would top your list for most popular and least popular?

I dunno’. Andrea Arden ’cause she’s Canadian and I like her music. Sorry, not much into the horsey set.

      Andrea Arden has music?

I suspect Patricia McConnell would be surprised to find herself listed as a “celebrity.” But she’d top my list. I love the way she makes dog science accessible to non-scientists.

With me, Cesar Milan is the least popular celebrity. I know Michael Vick is notorious but even (most) people who like him understand that tormenting and killing dogs is wrong. But Mr. Milan puts bad info into the hands of millions of people who act on it.

It’s sort of why I think Playboy is more damaging to women’s rights than hardcore porn. It seems to harmless to many that it slips under the radar.

I hear you Pamela about both Cesar Milan and Playboy. The good news — I heard something about Milan’s show not being renewed (I have to confirm that). The bad news: Playboy is being glamorized again on a new show, and another re-creates the ‘stewardess’ days of Pan Am air travel; retro is in for women.

Score one for dogs, minus one for women on TV.

Edie – I was thinking the same thing when I saw the ads for the Playboy and Pan Am shows. I just don’t get the appeal.
Just glad the dogs win one today!

So agree with you on Patricia McConnell Pamela. She makes it easy to understand and I love that. I think you make a good point about CM, but I still think Vick tops my list. He pretends he’s sorry, but all I really get from him is that he’s sorry he was caught.

I SO did not see the Playboy comment coming! Good point though.

I love Patricia McConnell and try to read her blog as often as possible. She explains things so well and with such kindness. Victoria Stilwell would also be high on my list as she is attempting to provide a great alternative to the mis-information of other television trainers.

In my opinion, my least favourite animal celebrity is Brad Pattison. He makes Milan look like a sweetheart.

That’s what I love about her Kristine. She has a truly kind heart and she makes me want to be a better person and dog owner. I also love Victoria. I have used a lot of her techniques successfully – like loose leash walking.
I know about Brad Pattison and think he’s at least at CM’s level if not above.

Bob Barker would definitely be at the bottom of every male dog’s list.

That is a good question, I would have to go with Vick as my least favorite, and as my most favorite I would have to put Diane Keaton near the top along with Doris Day.

Interesting you would choose Diane Keaton or Doris Day. Are they huge animal advocates? (This is how ignorant I am about celebrities. I have no idea!). Agree with you on Vick.

I don’t think they are huge but they are supporters and they were on the celebrity list that I googled:)

        LOL! I was wondering!

Thank you Pamela and Kristine. You are so right, I am SUPER surprised to be mentioned, but ever so grateful! I’ll remember your kind words on those low moments we all have…

      Patricia -Thanks for commenting.
I’m not going to lie. Pamela, Kristine and I have been giggling like school girls because we are so in awe of you and are so tickled pink that you commented. That’s how high you rate with us. I think this means you have groupies. 🙂

I love reading Patricia McConnell’s information as well – she and Victoria Stilwell would be at the top of my list, and yes – Cesar Milan would be my least favorite.

So agree with you Julie. Patricia and Victoria would be at the top of my list too. CM would be on the other list, but I think Vick would be higher on that list for me.

I would vote for Betty White, hands down. If we all would use our respective strengths, we could do much more for the animals. I have created a website where five dogs share their stories to help us live more like them — be true to ourselves and enjoy each moment we are blessed to experience. http://www.stopchasingyourowntail.com
We don’t have to be a celebrity to contribute in our own way.
