Wordless Wednesday – Peggy Goes Home

This week’s Wordless Wednesday is a little more wordy than normal (Okay. A lot more wordy!)

Recently, the rescue group I volunteer for made the unusual exception to adopt one of our dogs out-of-state. What made it more unusual was the fact that it was not just out-of-state, but all the way across the country.

It seemed like an impossible task, given the distance, but someone above must have really wanted this adoption to happen because the stars aligned enough to bring together a rescue volunteer, a kind stranger who was willing to donate their plane for the journey, and a flight crew that was more than happy to give this Sheltie a chance at a new life.

This is the story, as told in pictures, of Peggy’s journey to her new mom and dad, Julie and Tim.

The special woman who took these pictures and video and who cared for Peggy on her journey is Heather, a fellow rescue volunteer. She’s a woman with really big heart.

While the person who donated the plane for Peggy’s trip wishes to remain anonymous, I would like to recognize them, whoever they are, for their kindness and generosity. The same goes for the flight crew, who I heard doted on Peggy throughout the whole journey.

Peggy with her caretaker and transporter, Heather, the night before her big journey. Heather’s adorable dog, Mya, was happy to welcome Peggy into her home for the evening.

Peggy getting some extra special attention from Heather’s daughter.

It was a very early morning when Peggy and Heather began their journey out east, but the flight crew was ready and waiting.

Did I mention she now has some new Sheltie brothers and sisters? Lucky girl. :)

Wow, what a story. I’m sure there’s a lot of interesting behind-the-scenes info as well.

Last year, a local rescue in NY adopted a dog across country as well. The dog had severe thunderstorm anxiety and nothing they tried worked for him. The rescue found a home for him in a part of the country not generally subject to thunder and lightning.

It’s awesome when creativity and commitment can combine to find a good home for wonderful animals.

This brought tears to my eyes, if only all dogs were so lucky. Thank you so much for sharing and God Bless all who worked so hard to make this happen.

BTW, that’s the only way I’d ever want to fly with my dogs, wih them right beside me. :-)

What a beautiful story, the fact that so many people helped and the donation of a private plane (very expensive), makes me believe that there are still alot of good caring people out there. If thr economy was better, im sure there would be alot more succesful rescues.
This was a wonderful story to read…:-)

Such happy faces. There must be a force in the universe that plans these beautiful hopes and dreams to come together.

Yay for Peggy and her new family! It’s so amazing when people care so much about one dog to put in all this work to make sure she gets home. :-)

From what her mom says, she is very happy in her new home. She also has a very loving new Dad that I forgot to mention. Sorry Tim!

I am so glad that she found a home. It was a shame to have to give her up, cause she is a great dog. I’m hoping she is very happy. She is missed. :) little pudgy. Im wondering how she is liking her new name though. :)

Hi Danielle! I imagine it would have been really hard to give her up, but I have it on good authority that she is loving her new home and brothers and sisters. I hope it helps to know she is happy. I thought it was nice to hear that she had befriended a shy puppy mill Sheltie. How nice of her huh?
I always used to wonder about changing names too, but I have learned that dogs adjust better than we think. I hope it made you comforted you to know she is doing okay.
