My New Favorite Pet Gadget

Nitize LED Light

In the past, I have mentioned my dislike of the whole “fall back” time change because it takes away my extra hour of daylight in the evening. Most of my dislike has to do with the fact that I hate walking my dogs in the dark. We have no sidewalks in my neighborhood and even though it’s a residential area, we often have people driving their cars way too fast. I am afraid one day me and my dogs, or someone else and their dog, will get hit.

But this weekend I found this wonderful little gadget at Chuck and Don’s Pet Food Outlet. It’s a little LED light that you attach to your dog’s collar. It’s low-tech; it turns on with a twist, and the battery is easy to replace. It’s definitely the best new pet gadget I have seen in some time. I was able to hook it easily to Lady’s collar to show you what it looks like. Yes. It’s really that bright. You can see it from quite a distance. In fact, we saw another dog at our dog park wearing one last night and I could see him way before we got close enough to hear him.

I think we’ll be taking more walks in the dark now that I have found something that allows people to see us more quickly and from further away. This is technology at it’s best, don’t you think?

Lady and her new light

If you live in Minnesota (or Denver) you can pick one up at Chuck and Don’s, and if not, you can order them online at niteize.com – here’s the direct link.

I have an old version of that (or at least a different one) called a Spot Lit. That is what we use all of the time. Even though it is about the size of a quarter, it still works on small dogs. It’s better if you clip it to the ring between their shoulders on their harness though so it doesn’t hit them in the legs when they walk.

That looks more effective than the reflective collars and leashes.

Thanks for the link! I have seen similar lights but they always seemed so expensive. This one is smaller and definitely fits my teeny tiny budget. A friend of mine actually has a glow in the dark collar. It looks pretty cool but I don’t know how effective it actually is, especially when it’s not pitch black outside.

Hey, you also might want to try to win the LED leash and collar we’re giving away on our blog today! It lights up and even blinks so you guys would be more visible.

we have some of those. they’re really handy in dark parks with dogs that run off to scrounge in the bushes for leftovers. the ones in the petshops here were rather expensive so The Other Half googled them and ordered some from China! they’re not as fancy as the one in your picture but they work just as well. cheap as chips! which is really good since they get lost quite a bit during playtime.

That is really cool! Something else you might like is the Pup Crawl leash we got from a friend of mine. She lives in Minnesota and bought them for a fundraiser for a local shelter. The whole leash lights up and it will even blink if you want it to! I love it! http://www.thepupcrawl.com/index.php/shopping-cart

It doesn’t appear that Lady minds wearing it either. Glad you could find something that makes your walks safer and more likely. I’m very happy for my sidewalks. :)
